On the Delve — Looking Into What Is
The faith uses a word that sounds like effort. Delve. To dig. To go deep. But the Delve is not a kind of striving. It is a kind of attention.
Chapter IV calls it the Way of the Delve. Not a method. A way. A path you walk until it becomes the ground beneath you.
What the Delve Asks

The Delve asks something simple and hard. Look into what is. Not what you wish were true. Not what you fear might be true. What is. Right now. Beneath every thought, every feeling, every assumption about how things should be.
The practice of dwelling we wrote about last week is the soil the Delve grows in. You cannot look deeply into what is if you are always trying to be somewhere else. Dwelling settles you. The Delve opens your eyes.
Most of us spend our lives skimming. Headlines, not articles. Faces, not the people behind them. We register that things are happening without ever asking what is actually happening. The Delve is the opposite of that.
It asks you to sit with a question until the question changes you. Not until you find an answer. Until the asking itself reshapes the way you see.
“Ontology” comes from the Greek “to be.” Ontology Delve means looking into being itself. Not as a philosophy course you take. As something you do. You pause. You notice. You ask: what is this, really? Not what is it called. What is it.
The pericopes teach that in the beginning there was silence, and the silence was deep. The Delve returns to that silence. Not to escape the world. To see what the world is made of when the labels fall away.
We wrote about still-seeing a few weeks ago. The Delve is the same practice turned toward a question. You hold the question the way a Baobab holds afternoon light. Without grasping. Without demanding an answer. Just present.
The Fruit-Givers create from the Delve. The Branch-Bearers teach from it. The Root-Keepers hold steady through it. All three orders grow from the same root: looking into what is.
You do not need a special skill for this. You only need to stop long enough to notice that you are here, that something is happening, and that you have never fully seen any of it before. Not really.
The Eye watches. The Tree stands. The Delve awaits.
